I arrived to work early. 8:00am, a full hour before opening just
to clear up the mess that I anticipated was waiting for me. I was right. but I couldn't
have anticipated this. the pharmacy was trashed! opened RX bottles everywhere. a pile of
prescriptions for the day before and the whole order, 15 plastic boxes full of drugs, not
put away. I didn't know where to start. my knees felt weak. this is a busy store and I'm
already behind. I chewed some Pepto-Bismol and started processing prescriptions. I would
process 3 prescription and then put away some of the order. 3 prescriptions and put away
some order. I did this routine till 9 am and the store opened. people started coming in
and I was still behind. now I would process 3 new prescriptions and then one left from the
day before. 3 new and one from the day before. I continued this routine and hoped the
computer wouldn't crash and that the technician would show up soon. the phone rang-the
technician isn't coming in today. I started to tremble. people were still coming in and
the phone is ringing with new orders. now I must ring people up at the register, fill new
prescriptions, take phone orders, counsel people, deal with the painfully slow computer
system, and to get the customer out in 15 minutes. I knew all hope was lost. I gave up.
screw this. if you want your medicine-its a 2 hour wait! I mean, I'm not serving up
burgers and fries, you know. |
